Stretch fabric is a material that can stretch. It is mainly made of versatile yarns, for example, lycra, spandex, spandex (various names of a similarly engineered fiber). In addition, there are weft fabrics that stretch due to the creation technique – circular. The elastic fabric improves the stitching, as it is a material that complements the figure. Lycra (elastane or spandex) builds the wear resistance of the item, while not killing the advantages of different materials. For example, the elastic cotton material gels each of the positive properties of the cotton fabric: breathability, water absorption capacity. Elastic fabrics are ideal for women’s clothing, active clothing, stage clothing, clothing, and household materials.

Lycra, Spandex And Elastane

Lycra, spandex, and elastane are several names of a similarly engineered fiber, made of polymer-polyurethane elastic. Lycra is a registered trademark by the Dupont Company. This flexible material name is popular in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina, Ireland, and Israel. Spandex is a reorganized “expand” word. This fiber name is basic for Asia, North America, and South America. It highlights extraordinary versatility, has an incredible recovery of wrinkles, and returns to its unique length in the stretch mat (the recovery rate is up to 95%). Elastane is a general name in European nations: France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and the Netherlands.

The Basic Types

The two basic types are 2-way and 4-way stretch fabrics. 2-way stretch fabrics have torsion or weft elastic (some call them 1-way stretch fabrics). They are pleasant enough to wear but are not suitable for clothing items such as sportswear or sportswear. Another component of the 2-way stretch fabric is that it does not return to its original shape. The term stretching in a single direction can likewise refer to seams and their level of elongation. It is an exceptionally low level, which implies that these fabrics hardly stretch (0% – 25%). The 4-way stretch fabrics can reach both shapes – transverse and longitudinally, which provides better flexibility and makes them ideal for sportswear. T-shirt fabrics also have torsion and weft elasticity, since they are woven, not woven.

Elastic Finish Fabric

The elastic finish is a perforated fabric, which contains versatile threads. Lycra (spandex) is added to bind during the creation cycle to make the fabric strong. The extensible tape is ideal for subtleties of clothing such as sleeves since lycra makes them less wearable. It is an ideal decision for underwear, overlays, shoulders and this is just the tip of the iceberg. Elastic tulle is a lightweight lattice fabric with a touch of spandex. As a rule, it has an excellent 4-way stretch. The fabric is delicate and highlights a liquid wrap. The extendable tulle is ideal for bases and fittings. Choose it to animate the neck areas, points or use it as an overlay material.

How To Sew

Stretch fabrics are an unadulterated delight to wear; however, they seem to be very difficult to sew with them. Here are some tricks of the trade that will help one with the plan design. Ballpoint needle, if the tip of the needle is sharp, can damage the fabric. The ballpoint needle includes an adjusted one. Use the zigzag, this type of joint will allow the fabric to stretch along the crease. It is an option in contrast to a serger.
